fun read

Stargate SG-1: Ouroboros - Melissa Scott

An fast paced entertaining  story set in an alternate reality Atlantis with the SG1 team fighting to get home with the help of an Atlantis team and coming face to face with the Wraith.

good read

SG1-21 The Drift (Stargate SG-1, #21) - Diana Botsford

A good read but the story seemed to drag a bit in sections.

great read

STARGATE SG-1: Four Dragons - Diana Dru Botsford

A great read, that delves into the history and mythology surrounding the G'ould Lord Yu.  It is too bad that the TV show didn't get to focus on this particular character in any great fashion, but the books more than make up for it.

great read

STARGATE ATLANTIS: Unascended (book 7 in the Legacy series) - Jo Graham, Amy Griswold

Another excellent installment in the series, so glad that they brought back the character of Dr. Weir.  I missed her when the Replicators "killed" her and I am very interested in seeing were the series is headed, the only bad thing is that the book ended on a cliff hanger and we may have to wait a bit for the next installment.

phenomenal read

Stargate Atlantis: Inheritors - Jo Graham, Melissa Scott, Amy Griswold

This series took up right were the TV series left off and really took the Star Gate Atlantis world to the next level.

Loved it

STARGATE ATLANTIS: Secrets (Book 5 in the Legacy series) - 'Melissa Scott', 'Jo Graham'

I really loved how the authors of this series delved into the whole Wraith mythology and origins and made it both epic and tragic.

great read

Stargate Atlantis: The Furies - Jo Graham

Excellent story,it would have made a great episode.

Excellent read

STARGATE ATLANTIS: Allegiance(Book three in the Legacy series) - 'Melissa Scott', 'Amy Griswold'

A great read that introduces new characters as well as fleshes out favourite characters backstories and histories. I really loved how they went deeper into the Wraith culture and the whole relationship they have with their Queens.

Great read

Stargate Atlantis: The Lost - Jo Graham, Amy Griswold

An excellent second installment in the series, this is the third time that I have read the book and it is as good a read as the first time that I read it.

Loved it

Stargate Atlantis: Homecoming - Jo Graham, Melissa Scott

I am a huge fan of the TV series so when I heard that there was books that took up where the series finale left off I was extremely happy.  A fast paced story that incorporates all the favorite characters from the series into an excellently told story. This is actually the third time that I have read the series and it just as good as the first time that I read it.

good read

The Flooded Earth: Our Future In a World Without Ice Caps - Peter D. Ward

Both apocalyptic and informative.  There were times I found myself getting somewhat depressed while reading this book but that is because there is an underlying truth in it and that is if we don't change our consumption habits in a large and meaningful way fairly quickly the earth will see huge upheavals in the coming century.

great read

Bears: Without Fear - Kevin Van Tighem

To be quite honest I don't have any expierence with bears, I don't believe that I have ever seen one in the wild despite the fact that I did grow up in a rural area and there were black bears about.  I imagine that if I had ever run across a bear I would have died of a heart attack before the bear could have looked cross eyed at me!  This book was an informative source as to the different species found in North America their home ranges ,their varied diets and their fast disappearing habitats.

great read

The Once and Future World: Nature As It Was, As It Is, As It Could Be - J.B. MacKinnon

A compelling and fascinating read when you realize how much of the natural world we have lost over the centuries and our continued complacency with the disappearances.

great read

The Fossil Hunter: Dinosaurs, Evolution, and the Woman Whose Discoveries Changed the World (MacSci) - Shelley Emling

Before reading this book I had little idea who Mary Anning  was and her impact in the origins of the scientific disciplines of paleontology and geology. She lead a truly fascinating life but the sad irony is that she received little or no recognition for her vast contributions to her fields of work during her lifetime and even after her death.

Great read

The Extreme Life of the Sea - Stephen R. Palumbi, Anthony R. Palumbi

One of the best natural history books that I have read in a long time, peppered with entertaining pop culture references so it should appeal to both non scientific and scientific audiences.  Who knew there was a small jelly fish out there that could regenerate like Dr. Who! or that there was a coral that inspired the Sarlacc creature in Star Wars Return of the Jedi!

Excellent read

Where the Wild Things Were: Life, Death, and Ecological Wreckage in a Land of Vanishing Predators - William Stolzenburg

Intellectually most people realize that a healthy ecosystem needs its large predators, like grizzlies, wolves, killer whales and sharks in order to function properly but when we hear news stories about encounters between humans and said predators most of us probably have a tendency to leave intellect at the door and cringe in fear.  This book illustrates how predators both large and small make for a healthy ecosystem and does this beautifully in a both informative, entertaining and non preachy way.  Who would picture the cute and cuddly sea otters as predators? but they keep sea urchins the predators of kelp forests at bay and ensure a robust and healthy sea coast.
